Romance :
The film Titanic is a film that is seemly based on the disruption of the social classes of the higher and lower classes of society. this is seen hen Jack the main protagonist was not able to be with his love interest due to the fact that he was from a poor working class background

The target audience of this film are for people who have an interest in historical context seeing as it Is about the titanic that sank in 1912 as well as for the target audience of people who enjoy a story about love which is expressed though Jake and Rose's love story. the age group for this is aimed at certificate 12, due to its natural of natural events and the sexual nature of the love scenes are not suitable for a young audience members.

The conventions that are used in the making of this film range from  high, low and canted angles. this devices is used so that the target audience are not bored when they are watching the film; as well as the different camera angles being a way to express different levels intensity's that are shown throughout the films journey.  the use of  juxtaposition of rich and poor, the gender roles played our up to the characters

Appying theories to my film

Applying  theories to my film.

The reason why I decided to look at theorist in relation to my media product was because I wanted to give a representation that the audience are able to read. Down below are the theories that my  film has are the  representation of the characters in the film as well as the camera angles I used to help convey these ideas.

Stereotypes :
O'Sullivan et al (1998) -stereotypes is a label that involves a process of categorisation and evaluation- stereotypes are a shorthand to narratives because of its simple representation. this is apparent due to the fact that the actors in the film are  the stereotypes of society representation of young people, they see them as negative and rebellious therefore I took the change to do this as show them the outlook of that most of the teenagers are seen as wild and out of control. this the links to Lipmann theory (1956) came up with the word stereotypes and that is was not meant to be negative but a shortcut to understanding or an ordering process.

Laura Mulvey (1975) argues that the dominate point of view is masculine and that the female body is objectified by the camera lens. this links to Berger's theory 'Ways of seeing' as he believe that men act and women appear; meaning that in the film Emily is seen with red lip stick that suggests her sexual nature as well as her dancing in front of the camera in a series of close ups, extreme closes up and long angle shots o her be objectified by the camre lens as she is wanting to appear for the male spectator in the film.

Planning:Call sheet for scenes 2,3,4 and 5

Call sheet scene 2

I decided to do a call sheet for my AS media product so that I was able to schedule in correct times that everybody was available as well as being able to have the right props and camera equipment so that it will make it easier for us to be able to ablate the correct information. Furthermore, I split the scenes up so that I am able to see what scene needs what type of equipment for example for scene 2 of the generation.com film the scene is set up at the local school of Brentside high school drama department to create a contrast to scene 4 and 5 where the teenagers are already being free by going to clubs and pubs. The reason for this decision was that I was able to contrast both of scenes together to create a montage of images to help highlight the chaotic and wild lifestyles.

Task - Inteview Video

call sheet

Call sheet Final film

Costume: jackets, hoodies, jeans, tops, crop tops, coats (big puffy coats), makeup: red lipstick (running make up down the actors faces, to create a sense of being unbalanced and chaotic lifestyle.

The location: at Brentside high school classrooms,  this will take place in the drama department where black curtains will help to shield away unwanted light from the camera lens. Also the dark curtains helps add depth and mysterious feel to the characters
also local pubs around Ealing Broadway and Hanwell

Time: actors to arrive at Brentside high school at 3:15- the duration of the film it will last for 2 hours. After school hours, the actors will meet at Ealing Broadway station at approximately 5:00pm- this will take place at the pub where it will help to reflect the communal area of the teenagers.

lighting: natural lighting from the pub and club location due to the fact a tripod was hard to move around as it is not portable. However this added to the fact that the actors were portraying teenagers of the lower classes, therefore the dim lighting helped to convey a sense of dirty and uneducated society and social class.

Film opening analysis

Film opening analysis

Make us feel emotionally involved as well as connected towards the two protagonists on screen by showing this through a close up gives us a much better visual .

Panning shot: used to show people or an object. Panning by turning horizontally on a vertical axis, but the effect may be enhanced by adding other techniques, such as rails to move the whole camera platform.
Lighting:
Natural lighting - (Notan), Lamps and candles are also used in this shot

Evaluation Q7 part 2

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

By, my teacher setting me preliminary task, in to the lead up for the media product final, I have learnt sound control is extremely important. For example, to the lead up to my media product I have learnt that the added background noise to the partying scene added to the atmosphere. However there were, continuous background noise that was not needed for the scenes. Thus I decided to us the sound adjuster, which I have learnt to use over the past months. This helped me to take away the noise and replace it with a musical soundtrack that again added great effectiveness to the film.

My editing skills have develop over the process of this year, as now I am more efficient in the way I use the premier programme as I am now able to re-order different clips and to move them into different areas of the film or video clip. For example I am now able to increase sound and lighting to the scenes so that I will add effect to the following footage so that it looks prefect. This was visible as the media product is a montage of images that reflects the highs and lows of teenage life. the lighting that I have used in the video where neon lighting and washing lightening so that I was able to create the partying atmosphere of the scenes within the film product. Also I felt  that choosing the soundtrack for my overall product was a hard decision as  I wanted the music to help reflect the dangers of taking drugs and alcohol, this was apparent when I start after school for one week choosing music that would cater to my target audience, of young adults; the reason I looked at different party house music was that I needed to make sure it cater to the audience; so I decided that an upbeat soundtrack was key to making the media product succeed so that it gave the partying look to of the rebellious teenagers.
Notably I have learnt a lot about camera angles and how to film, in a much better way now as I am able to establish different shots and to tell you the meaning and the purpose of certain camera angles and shots that are used in the making of films by directors. To be specific, I now know that a close up shot, is a shot that is use to help heighten a scene object, or feature of somebody’s facial features or outer body, this is present in my film where you have an actor that is in the drinking scene at the night clubs, where the camera does a close up that leads to an extreme close up to the drink she is holding in her hand as well as her face, so that the audience can see that outcome of the drinking having on the actor on screen. Also it is a good way for the audience to see that the actors “ being teenagers” are having fun in the film, making this particular close up have a much better purpose where as if a close up was at a particular church, this would not have any sort of significant to the scene as the film is based around alcohol and drub usage thus this would not be useful in the film; as it is out of content.
I felt that the learning the camera angles gave me a better understanding of how I could express emotion and character from these camera angles. for example one of the actors can be seen dancing proactively by using hand gestures touching her face this links to Berger theory 'ways of seeing' as he believes that women appear and men act this is apparent when Emily wears the use of red lipstick also helps to show the sexual nature of herself . These applies to Laura Murvey theory as the dominate point of view is masculine, as the female body of Emily is being displayed for the male gaze in order to provide erotic pleasure for the male. women are therefore objectified by the camera lens this shown though the use of close ups and extreme close up of Emily the actors lips and face to provide this pleasure also whatever the audience is position to accept the masculine point of view. Furthermore at the beginning of the film the female actress is again holding a spoon which I think we conveyed this to the audience clearly and visually seeing as the audience are able to decode a symbolic meaning out of the spoon, this is expressed through the use of white and purple lighting to suggest that she is at a club as well as the canted angles expressing the emotion of the female girl being on a illegal high therefore the audience are able to witness this at the being, this ties in to Tovor theory of equilibrium when the protagonists life is viewed as normal and everyone is happy, where as in my film is not apparent as it is not a fixed structure seeing at the film starts of with an disequilibrium where the audience are already witness the action of the of teenagers and young people taking drugs. I started it this way as it did not want the  audience to lose sense of the reality of the dangers, therefore the audience will experience many teenagers doing harm to themselves ion stead of starting with seeing the actors getting ready etc. therefore the use of juxtaposing the characters and moving images helped to create a chaotic montage of rebellious teenagers
moreover I am also proud of the footage that I have recorded of the
I have also learn the values of each camera techniques as in the film I understand that by using different shots in the film will help add character as well as good structure to the scene as the audience would not be left bored as they would be excited and willing to know what will happen in the next upcoming scenes. In equal importance I have also learnt about when “lighting” is useful in a film, for example I know that my using chiaroscuro in a particular scene in my film will add as well as heighten the audience’s anticipation for the films outcome, this to be helps establish a nice and very broad outcome for the film as there is a range of different structural scene that intertwine beautifully between each other that helps creates a graceful and musical flair in the scene , with the help of natural lighting and as well bight and colourful lighting that helps add effect to the footage. This will then allow the audience to visualise what it would and will be like to be at the clubs and the partying atmosphere as, the film creates a sense of wildness around the actors on the screen.

All in all I think  that I have done the main and axillary task to the best of my ability as I have covered the main possible aspects:

  • I have covered the main research tasks to the best of my ability.
  • I done call sheets that cater to each scene of the media product, main task as well as creating an ident for the film product that I am proud of as it gives my film a unique quality and originality for my media footage that are also found in films.
  • However if I had more time to plan for my main task,  I would have made and produce my own sound tract material  in the music studio so that I had my very own original track for my media product.
