Added scene's to the film opening

Added scene's

Looking back at our film opening, as a group we decided that there was not enough dialogue to link the opening together. We decided that we should film more of the main characters . We decided that we needed more of our main protagonist ‘Jake’ in the film. We thought that the equilibrium at the beginning of the film we wanted to show the audience him getting ready for work, while he is talking to himself. This is done with an over the shoulder shot, so that the audience can establish the focus on the main protagonist.

Later on , we went to film ‘Jake’ in the pub whilst he was having a conversation with the customers. This was done to show the contrast between  the teenagers who only go to clubs and parties in a negative manner as well as the teenagers going out work  in a positive light in a communal area. Different camera techniques were used in the pub for example a long shot of the character working in the pub and to see the surroundings. On the other hand, you can only hear the customers and only see there hand in the screen shot this was because we didn’t want the focus to be taken away from the main character. Furthermore, I decided to incorporate another scene of the main character where ‘Zhane’ is seen doing her hair and make up for the  club she is going to. This is hot in a range of camera techniques such as the lose up of her applying her lipstick to a mid shot of her looking throw the mirror and  putting blusher to her cheeks. This was used to not just to show the character preparing for the night but so the audience can get a better outlook  as to what the character is about. This was done so that the audience can get a much better perspective on the characters. This gave the film a clear and structured narrative to out opening sequence of the film. Another scene which I decided to add was the train scene of the character come off the train this was shot in close ups , handheld and extreme close ups of the train and the character. This was a good way to show where the party was set as well as the audience knowing the location of where the party is located. This was highlighted with the use of  footage of the teenage group walking to the party in the street, with they yelling and screaming at each other, this shows that the teenagers are already influence by the alcohol, this is present in the film when you can here the main character ‘Emily’ shouting about ‘pop culture’ in the film. This makes the audience make an opinion on the teenagers before the film has started.

Post edits where done again to the video as, we thought that as a group that they was not enough footage of the main characters getting ready for the club which they were going to. Therefore we decided to reshoot new scene to encode into the partying scene. This is an example of the main character Zhane applying lipstick this links to the theorist Laura male gaze theory of footage being made through men's point of view. The reason why I looked at this theorist in particular was because that it fitted to the structure of out film. This is because here it can be seen that the protagonist is getting ready therefore the audience could argue that she is wanting to be seen my the opposite sex. Berger said that ‘men act and women appear’ meaning that the teenagers in our film can be seen appearing to the males naked eye. As she is applying and doing her hair. Another scene that male gaze theory fits is the partying scene which Emily the other protagonist can be seen dancing with a beer bottle in her hand, this again highlights the fact that she is dancing in front of the camera in a proactive manner. Also this fits the stereotypes of Lipmann's theory as seeing as the teenagers in our film are all seen in a negative manner and rebellious teenagers. This is because the narrative structure of our film is a shortcut to the understanding of our media product as the teenagers can be see partying and taking drugs. Therefore the audience are able to quickly learn who is who in the film due to the stereotyping of the characters. In the film this is a bad representation of the teenagers of our generation seeing as they are all generalised as bad and rebellious. This can been seen though the fast pace editing that is helped with the montage of moving images layering over each other. I have applied the Reception theory to my film, the reception theory suggest that the full meaning  is not made  of a film until the audience  engage with the text and in doing so  create a fuller meaning. This means that the director encodes the meaning  through the use of techniques and that the audience decodes a understanding, for most the understanding is preferred but the reception theory acknowledges the fact that bringing your own idea some people may have a negotiated reading. This I present in our film as we have encoded specific meaning through the use of camera work, editing and sound. This is apparent in the close up shot that we have of our main character Zhane where she is seen applying lipstick to her mouth. This is a typical of teenager girl as this is a common thing that they do before they go out in general or to a party. In another particular shot this can bee seen at the beginning of the film where the main character is seen with makeup running down her face with  a spoon in her had this automatically tell the audience that she is  taking illegal substances.
