AS Evaluation 1 2 and 3

Evaluation
Q1:  what ways does your media product use develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

My film “#Generation.com” genre is drama based which speaks volumes about teenagers of today’s generation as they are all generalised in a negative light, we portray this in the film opening. Thus I challenged the form of conventions of my film product as; an ordinary film would normally begin in a linear way, with camera angles such as an establishing shot of the films location as well as long angle shots throughout. Considering, my film begins with an extreme close up of the girl in the night club with the help of special effects that help give the audience the illusion of us being there as well as playing with the audiences’ vision as the camera angle is slightly canted and disfigured at the beginning of the shot hence allowing the audience to feel uneasy, disorientation and frantic. I used this technique to show the intoxication and madness of the footage thus used for dramatic effect to help convey my ideas on scenes.  This continues in to various different shots right through the film, that helps stimulates the use of flair and layers of the montage to introduce the characters : the montage of images and footage used in the making if this film helped created a party feel atmosphere that helps give the film a much better picture. Furthermore, I used a lot of canted angles and handheld camera work a lot thought-out the making of this film to give a much better and clear representation of the stereotypical behaviour of young teenagers in today’s society. Hence making the camera angles symbolic as they are used in order to reveal the reaction and usage of drugs and alcohol abuse on our generation, alongside the representation the experimental lifestyle of teenagers today. Considering the canted angles also insinuate the extreme and out of control behaviour of the characters as the skewed angle represents their erratic state mentally and physically. Moreover, the content of this film consist of camera angles, that range from medium shots, high/low angles as well as the editing ranging from jump cuts to the transitions differing from fade in and out to black and blackouts. Reason for this decision is that all the techniques above , highlight specific areas in the footage that help gather the different aspect of the film making the film more up to date as well as fresh and glitzy. Additionally, I do believe that I challenge the issues of today’s teenagers. As I have looked at the negative and the positive views on this generations teenagers. Thus I thought it was important for me to make this film, to show the audience teenagers different values and beliefs on life as a whole. To do this I decided to look at other films to give me inspiration for my film which was related to the general topic of drugs and alcohol. “Project X” and the movie “This is the End (2013)”and “Savages (2012)” The reason why I looked upon these three films was because the both gave very different outlooks on drinking alcohol and drug taking. To be specific, “project X”(2012) and Savages (2012) allowed me to really grasp the feel of teenagers and young adults having fun, living in the moment. Later on I went on to be adventurous with the drinking scene as it was all about them allowing themselves to let go, not have any responsibilities. My intentions were to see if the audience would have the same reaction to today’s youth. However, on the other hand I also wanted to make the audience think about the youths of today, as I wanted to raise awareness of the issues and concerns regarding teenagers intake of alcohol and drugs thus by me getting that message out there through the film was an easier way for the public to listen as the footage spoke volumes, as it helped reinforce the message of youths abusing their selves. Hence, hopefully allowing the audience to reinforce this message around to the youths of today. Project X” helped me with my transitions used in the making of my film, to be specific there was a lot of jump cuts used to help keep the high spirited momentum up at all time , so that the audience did not lack focus from this element of the film. Thus I wanted the same for my film, as I did not want to disengage the viewers from the content of the media product. Furthermore, “Savages” gave me inspirational ideas for my montage concept. For example I used montage throughout the film as I wanted the audience to feel the fast pace reality that the young generation are living in this current momentum time, to reinforce the idea of the youths always being on a high. As in “savages” the director used allot of layering to establish each shot, I done this similar technique to pin point each idea that came to mind. As an added task I decided to look at extra research in to film genre so that I could get a better understanding of what codes and conventions will fall in to my media product category so therefore I looked at specific genre research where I looked at the generally sales and marketing aspects of each film so that I would understand what target audience will cater for an C2DE social class. this helped as I achieved a better understanding as it to who I will cater to, for my film opening.
Also, finding out that all three films, young adults were close together at all times, what I could see from this was that it was easy for them to make friends and to get along with everyone at the party, thus relating to my research of social media being the source where teenagers browse the web to communicate and to connect to other young adults from all other the world. It was an atmosphere that was lively as well as chaotic. Additionally, I do believe that I challenge the issues of today’s teenagers. Q2:How does your media product represent particular social groups?
Our film #Generation.com target audiences are based around “C2DE’ audience members of the public, hence the reason for the film being set in night clubs and dirty dilapidated areas. The reason for my film targeting this particular social group. Hence the film reflects what happens in there everyday’s life as people can identify this with similar issues and concerns. Notably the audience will be able to understand the values if the film, as they would not second guess our decisions on the making of the scenes but rather get the concept better as they will grasp the whole momentum of the film. The social groups are the people that are often, judge for the way they live their life, in a colourful way, thus seen negatively as other social class ABC1, view this as poor behaviour on society that is making the country unliveable. By also adding the equal importance here about the films characteristics of #Generation.com are depend of social media, it is a generation that is situated by media communication, images and videos, whereas, on the other hand are film looks at what are young people and teenagers do behind closed doors. As notably I wanted to really grasp the whole concept of the generations partying and drug use ways. In equal importance, I looked at social media sites to really help me understand how it works and what make teenagers and young people are so dependent on such sites. By doing this i have leant that it is a way form them to almost escape reality, not having to face the big world but to be about to hide behind a character profile and blog things that varies from everyday things to superstars. Conversely, Networking sites can be negative and also a horrible way for teenagers and young people to get lost in. The reason for this reaction is that it can become very nasty and scary from the opposite person; this is why I wanted to make a film that reflected both values of teenage youth by catching different elements these points by adding it in the film. also looked at how social networking sites can be negative and also a horrible way for teenagers and young people to get lost in. The reason for this reaction is that it can become very nasty and scary from the opposite person; this is why I wanted to make a film that reflected both values of teenage youth by catching different elements these points by adding it in the film. However I do think that teenagers and young adult benefits for teens engaged in social media include increased social confidence, more social support and heightened media literacy. Social media diversifies teens' social skills, which will help them navigate through a technologically astute society. Social media also allows teens to cultivate new friendships, which brings them access to wider networks and provides even greater learning and social opportunities for today’s youths. I reinforce this idea of teenagers letting lose in my movie footage at the beginning of the film, but however is still viewed as badly behaved to the public eye. Conclusions by setting the film to a high rating stimulate the meaning of our film being worthy to watch.  Moreover, the social dived on class shows the relation ratio between the social classes of ABC1 and C2DE. I think that if this film was broadcast to the ABC1 public audience we would be looked down upon as they would regard are social behaviour unliveable and unclosed as they do not believe that they way we go about our lives is natural. Whereas by showing this film #Generation, com to the audience of C2DE, they would not give us the benefit , simply because they would not judge are antics or the way we chose to live our life’s , but they would simple only question the why’s and how we chose the way we behave. I also believe that they would have a much better understanding as to why we would raise such a high issue and concern awareness of the youths of today. As they would understand that people living in the classes of, unemployment and working class public people know that it is hard to go around in high regarded place and not be judge as we are frowned upon by the upper class social media group.
