Question 4: Who would be the media
audience for your media product?
My films media audience would be aimed at teenagers and
young adults as as it is my target
audience. Ages any younger than 15 years
would not be permitted to watch our film opening as it has some sexual content, bad language,
drugs and alcohol abuse which would make it seem as if it’s persuading the
younger ages to follow. The reason for
this decision Is that my group thought that
this specific audience would understand the story behind the film and
sympathise with how the characters feel, especially as the location is mostly
set in a club and at that, age teenagers and young adults are normally seen
there. My group and I made a questionnaire and gave it to people in our school
from age 16-19, to ask what they would like to see in a Teen drama film. After
receiving the results we discovered that males would prefer to see drug and
alcohol abuse or Violence and females prefer to see crime and sex which relates
to Audience behaviour as men are interested in action while females are
interested in love. I gave options for the location to be set in a park,
estate, school, or club/pub. Majority of the audience chose for the location to
be set on an estate or park, which relates to John Hartley’s theory of socially
grouped audiences, from the specific locations that they chose, I’ve realised
that the audience are from a C2DE class as they chose an estate and park where
teenagers are normally seen smoking and drinking as it’s a communal area. I
created a specific audience profile where I included the specific target
audience I want to watch the film (which I have mentioned before) and the
conventions I used from a real film to advertise my target audience to watch this as it is relatable to this targeted social class.
