Specific genre audience research

Specific genre audience research

Describe the genre you will plan for your film. (Film , conventions of the opening and audience analysis.)- My genre will be Urban Drama- Involvement( Hayley, Taja, Iman and George.

Conventions of a opening film:

At the beginning of the film, the opening conventions that was used throughout was a narrative structure that was spoken poetically whilst the credits here screen, this was effective as the narrator was basically talking to the audience in order for him to get a much different but still an engaging performance opening from the audiences.

To be specific “Are you sitting comfortably? A rhetorical question followed  by “you” the first personally pronoun is used in order for the narrator to create a relationship towards us audience members in our for us to follow the storyline all the way through of the four drug dealers and the two prostitutes that from the streets of north London. Additionally, here it is clear that you can see that this is a disturbed, broken down society that is aimed and targeted at the middleclass people that range from the C2,D and E social class background-the rebellious is evident at this moment in time as youths are fighting back society.

Typography- basic white colour, didn’t give too much away apart from the low case font gave the perception that the film is based around young youths of today’s generation. The fact that they mention “David Cameron” in the opening helps us establish that the film is based around the London suburbs.  As you would expect this from children simply because they haven’t finished education yet.

Additionally the location and setting of the urban feel gives the perception that the main character lives in a rundown estate, with a barley functioning television set. This if effect as this presents to the audience that we will continue seeing the poverty and disruption of their everyday lives.

Lightening is another contributing factor to this film, the Notan lighting helps to keep the scene realistic and relatable to real life events, that will allow the audience to understand the depth of the characters.
Close ups where used at the beginning of the opening sequences as well as cross cutting to the people on the television screen and the main protagonist on the bed giving the perception that he is in a gang.

The costumes used in the film are basic and the same throughout, to be specific, the main protagonist “Riz” wears a cap, jacket and tracksuits bottoms- this instantly creates a young urban outlook of the film that helps to set the scene. Also a shallow depth of field is here used to again help heighten the dramatic outbreak in behaviour from these troubled youths, with this non- diegetic sound is added t o further emphasis the chaotic and dangerous atmosphere.
